Research notes on Native Americans and place names from Indian languages in S.C. and elsewhere; small amount of correspondence, ca. 1894-1935 (Box 1); clippings, 1920s and undated (boxes 1-6); notebooks (Boxes 5 and 6); and published and unpublished essays on Daniel's research in Indian languages, S.C. history, and his historical fiction. Volume, ca. 1934 [filed in P], consisting of research notes re Indians of Southeastern states, including Creek, Cherokee, and other nations, re such aspects as languages, settlements, and history; place names; Cherokees in S.C., Creek towns in Alabama and Georgia; and anecdotes and folklore, such as a tradition of a sacred stone drum used by the Cherokee carved in the shape of a turtle, thought to have disappeared at time of American Revolution. Includes newspaper clippings of column written by Daniel, "By-Ways of State History," published in the Southern Christian Advocate; original Brer Rabbit stories; also includes revised edition of "Cateecha of Keowee: A Maid of Alabama," published 1898; and several drafts of typed poem re Emily Geiger's ride (Box 3, folders 30-37).
